2025 Theme: Harmony in Community

February 13-15, 2025

The Midwinter Convention is MMEA’s annual professional development convention. The state’s largest gathering of music educators features nationally-recognized headliners, a wide variety of performances and informances, sessions from area presenters, P.I.T. Stop Sessions for practical instrument tips, an Exhibit Hall, and tons of networking. Join us for three days of professional development delivered with joy and fun!

The musical landscape of Minnesota spans communities hugging the Mississippi, circling the lakes, and dotted like farms across the rolling prairies. Music education is happening in homes, neighborhoods, and schools of all shapes, sizes, and demographics. Harmony is realized through the sounding of the different notes of a community. It is within these very differences that we build strength and artistry.

Learning and teaching are present in: one-on-one studios; community ensembles; music schools and university departments; school districts with enough music educators and funding to host their own professional development; and the setting where there is a superhero educator serving all students and disciplines alone. Within these myriad settings we find a kaleidoscope of the diversity that is Minnesotan people and their musical practices.

For the Midwinter Convention 2025,  we will come together to celebrate the tension across our differences that resolves in beautiful harmony when we honor the richness that comprises the musical expressions of our state. We celebrate harmonious collaboration in our teaching and learning environments. We seek equity and accessibility in our pedagogical approaches and organizational offerings as we honor our vast Minnesota soundscape.

We are MMEA.
