In this workshop, K-12 music educators & instructional leaders will get clear about the practical applications of culturally responsive teaching in the music education context by exploring four key components of a Culturally Responsive Music Program so that you can move beyond surface level theory to practical application, whether you teach kindergarten general music or high school band.

 

You will learn:

 

  1. Know how to avoid common mistakes K-12 music educators make as they attempt to implement culturally responsive practices in their music program.

 

  1. Understand the 4 key components your music program needs in order to be culturally responsive for learners with a variety of backgrounds and abilities.

 

  1. Be able to identify key shifts you can make tomorrow in your music program so that you can better connect with your music learners in a culturally affirming learning environment where they feel safe to take the necessary risks to engage in high quality music instruction.
