Hello MN Music Educators—
Here is a great training on hip hop education at St. Cloud State University. This music is a deep part of our students’ identities today– this training is sure to provide fresh ideas on culturally responsive, student-centered practices related to music education. Sure to also provide meaningful connections to other energized educators across the state! See information from the organizer below!

From the organizer:
On behalf of the Minnesota Hip Hop and Education Summit planning team, I wanted to invite you to join us for our celebration of all things hip hop and education happening Nov. 4 from 10 AM – 3PM here on SCSU’s campus in Atwood.
This event is for any and everyone (teachers, faculty, students, community members, etc.) interested in the educational power of hip hop culture. Come for a little bit or stay all day! There’s something for everyone!
We’ll be featuring tons of great workshops, panels, and resources including:
- Live music from recording artist Mickey Breeze and High School for the Recording Arts
- Panel discussion with k-12 teachers incorporating hip hop into their teaching
- Beat making demonstration from Grammy Nominated Music Educator Doug Brown
- Talk and book signing with High School of the Recording Arts founder and Hip Hop Genius author Tony Simons
- Pop-up record shop from Cloud City Records (yes a record shop on campus!)
- Much more!
We hope you will be able to join us on Friday Nov. 4 to join in the fun. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Dando (mbdando@stcloudstate.edu)
